City Farm - Cardiff

City Farm Cardiff ran as a non profit making co operative and was supported by grants from local authorities and charitable bodies including The Princes Trust. A handful of volunteers managed the place, growing an assortment of vegetables and herbs as well husbanding numerous animals, fowl and fish. The farm ran regular workshops with a range of community groups, like senior citizens and young people who had been sentenced to Community Service. CrackpotsCAO became involved with the City Farm because they wanted a pottery to complement the other activities which they provided for the public.

The design of the workshop had to consider the latest issues regarding Conservation, Health and Safety and Accessibility for the disabled. This included provision of wheel chair ramps and benches at the correct height, special insulation, heat reuse, controlling carbon emissions and other pollutants which would result from working with clay and the firing of kilns.

The photo below was taken after completion of the project and shows Simon Hubert with fellow artist in residence ? and a group of children.
